by Felix

Are you looking for a way to export your iPhone contacts to your PC or Mac in a CSV or VCF format? Or perhaps you are trying to find a solution to copy your messages and SMS from your iPhone to a computer? Look no further, this is the simplest and safest way to do so in just a few minutes.

In this article, we will show you:

Before getting started, you have to create an iTunes or iCloud backup. You can choose whatever backup method you prefer, but read about both before deciding. The below tutorial works great with iOS 10, 9, 8, 7 and 6 backups.

How to create an iTunes backup

To backup your iPhone using iTunes, simply connect your iPhone to your PC or Mac using the data cable and then open the iTunes application. Choose to backup your iPhone to your computer and then click on 'Back Up Now'.

How to create an iCloud backup

You can use iTunes to back up with iCloud, but the easiest way to do this is directly from your iPhone using a Wi-Fi connection. Go to the Settings application from your iPhone and then tap on iCloud. From the iCloud menu, tap on 'Backup' and then on 'Back Up Now'.

How to export contacts or messages from iPhone

To get your contacts or messages from your iPhone, download the iPhone Backup Extractor software application. With the iPhone Backup Extractor you will be able to extract any type of data stored in an iTunes or iCloud backup.

Export iPhone contacts or messages from iTunes backup

Open the iPhone Backup Extractor and the application will automatically load your most recent iTunes backups. Our app searches for backups located in the iTunes default backup folder and shows you what data is available for extraction. Did you save your iTunes backup in a different folder? It's OK, you can choose the path by clicking on 'another backup folder'.

To get your contacts or messages, make sure you have the latest backup selected and go to the 'Overview' area. Now to download your contacts or messages from your iTunes backup, click on the extract links, from the bottom of contacts or messages. Choose where you want to extract your data and that's all.

Isn't that easy? With just a few clicks you can download all your contacts from your iTunes backup.

Please note that data extraction with the iPhone Backup Extractor Lite Edition is limited to four files at a time. To remove this limitation and extract all your contacts and messages from unencrypted iTunes backups, activating the Basic Edition is required. If you have an encrypted iTunes backup, you need a subscription.

Download iPhone contacts or messages from iCloud backup

With the iPhone Backup Extractor opened, click on the green plus button and then on the “iCloud” tab. Use your your iCloud credentials to get access to your account. Select your most recent backup and then click on ' 'Categories'. Here you can choose to download only your contacts, messages or any other data you would like to export from your iCloud backup. Now click on the download button and be patient while the iPhone Backup Extractor does its magic.

To get your contacts and messages, use the extract links from the 'Available data' section.

Note that the iCloud downloader feature is only available if you have a subscription plan active. Therefore, if you are only looking for a quick way to export your contacts or messages, you can get them back using an iTunes backup (instead of an iCloud one) and the Lite (the number of extracted files is limited) or Basic plan.

How to transfer your contacts to an iPhone

Transferring your contacts is even easier and takes no more than a few minutes.

  1. From the contacts folder you've just extracted, look for the file called contacts.VCF. Email this file to yourself as an attachment.
  2. Open the email you have just sent to you, from your iPhone. Make sure you are using the default email client application from Apple, otherwise the restoring process might fail.
  3. Tap on the attachment and you'll be asked if you want to transfer all contacts to your iPhone. Choose to accept the contacts and that's all.
