If you’re looking for a way to recover call history from your iPhone, you’ve come to the right place. In this article we’ll describe how to recover call history from an iCloud or iTunes backup.
The call history on your device is backed up once you connect your iPhone to the iCloud or when you generate an iTunes backup.
If you only want to retrieve your call history, please note that you shouldn’t restore a full backup to your iPhone, as this would remove the records created after the moment that backup was taken.
Depending on your backup, below are the 2 options to retrieve your call history: iCloud and iTunes.
Recover call history from an iCloud backup
If you have your iPhone at hand and you want to retrieve your entire call history from iCloud (including the deleted ones), first you’ll need to check for your latest iCloud backup.
To do this, go to Settings > iCloud > Backup. If "iCloud Backup" is "on", below you’ll see the date of your last backup. Don’t click "Backup now" button if you don’t want to overwrite your backup.
If you have an iCloud backup, you should be able to get back your call history with the iPhone Backup Extractor. Before doing this, verify that your iPhone will not overwrite your most recent backup. For this, make sure your phone is not charging or USB connected. Normally iCloud backups are done automatically when the iPhone is Wi-Fi connected to the Internet, locked or plugged into a power source.
Follow these steps to get your call history back:
You’ll need an iPhone Backup Extractor subscription plan to continue with next steps.
Step 2. Go to File > Preferences > iCloud > Add then introduce your iCloud credentials in order to access your account.
If you need to extract the call history from the iCloud you should first generate a local backup.
- You have two options: download a partial backup that contains only the "Call history" or generate a full backup.
- If you want to extract only the call history, the first option will suit you best. Click on “Categories”, then select “Call history” and hit the “Download" button.
Step 3. Once the backup file is downloaded on your computer, go to the “Overview” tab and click on the blue letters next to “Call history”, then select the location where you want to save the .csv file containing the call history. The extraction will take just a few seconds.
Once the data is extracted, open the .csv file with the inbound and the outbound calls.
Retrieve call history from an iTunes backup
The second option for extracting the call history uses an iTunes backup.
If you don’t already have one, you can generate it in just a few minutes using your computer and the iTunes tool provided by Apple.
Once you have the backup file, follow these easy steps:
Step 1. Download and install the iPhone Backup Extractor to your computer and launch it (supports previous and current iOS versions, as well as iOS 9.3).
To extract full call history data from your iTunes backup, you’ll need to buy a subscription plan of the iPhone Backup Extractor.
The application will automatically find the backup files located into the default folder used by iTunes (check here to see where iTunes backups are stored on your computer).
If your backup is not located in the default folder, you need to add its location by clicking on the "Add backups" button. If you have more than one backups in this folder, choose the one you want to recover call history from, using the dropdown left menu.
Step 2. The main screen on the iPhone Backup Extractor will show you what data is available for download.
- In order to retrieve the call history, go to the “Overview” tab and click on the blue number near “Call history”.
- Once you click on that number, you will be asked where you want to extract the data, then the info will be retrieved as a .csv file in a few seconds.
There are two other alternatives for extracting the call history information from an iTunes backup: click on “App View”, then “Apple Phone” and select “All calls”; or choose the “Extract” option found in the top menu, then select “Call history as CSV” and choose the location where the file will be extracted.
