iPhone Backup Extractor shows your restrictions PIN code!
This post was updated in May 2017
As our regular reader will know, we have been covering changes in iOS restriction passcodes since iOS 2. Experience has taught us that Apple is always changing the backup mechanism with every major release of iTunes/ iOS and that recovering your forgotten restrictions pin can sometimes be quite challenging. iOS 9 and iOS 10 for iPhone 7 is no different and we have seen more changes on how this code is stored, accessed and backed up.
With the latest iPhone Backup Extractor version you can recover or reset your iTunes backup restrictions passcode in just two clicks. So if you've forgot your iPad iOS 9 or iOS 10 iPhone 7 restrictions pin and you need it to prevent accidental in app purchases or if you're on an iPhone 5s and need to remove unwanted apps but forgotten your restrictions code, we've got you covered!
If you would like to view a short video tutorial, the one below will show you how to recover your restrictions passcode for an iPhone or iPad.
As mentioned above depending on your iOS, restriction passcodes are handled differently. In this article we go through the options for each iOS and what you need to do to recover your restrictions pin using the iPhone Backup Extractor Software.
Recover iPhone 7 restrictions passcode for iPad or iPhone iTunes backups
So when Apple introduced iOS 9 and iOS 10, as expected they changed how they stored the restriction PINs. In iTunes backups corresponding to iOS 9 and iOS 10 we now see a new resource file corresponding to the Restrictions passcode, called
com.apple.restrictionspassword.plist. Our developers have been working away on this and they have included a brand new function that simply shows you your forgotten restrictions code. Yes, it is that easy! Not to mention that the iPhone Backup Extractor can now show the restrictions passcode even for encrypted iOS 9 and iOS 10 iPhone 7 backups (as long as you know your iTunes encrypted backup password). Download the iPhone Backup Extractor to see this work in action!
All you need to do is to load your iOS 9 or iOS 10 iTunes backup in the iPhone Backup Extractor and click on top left side 'Utilities' button and choose 'Recover Restrictions PIN'.
Then press the Start button and start recovering your restrictions code.
It will take a couple of seconds while we try to find your restrictions code.
Important: iPhone Backup Extractor will show your restrictions passcode as long as it was enabled when you performed the backup. For any issues or questions why not ?
Reset your restrictions password for iOS 5 and iOS 6 iTunes backups
While Apple moved forward with their iTunes and iOS, we found out that the Restrictions Passcode is no longer stored in the
com.apple.springboard.plist file. And we have created for you a helpful guide on how to recover Restrictions PIN without factory reset your iPhone or iPad on iOS 5 and iOS 6 iTunes backups.
For not so techy users we have offered the option of resetting the restriction pin with the help of our iPhone Backup Extractor software. Watch the tutorial below:
Access your restrictions code for older iOS iTunes backups
For backups lower than iOS 5 we have a complete guide on How to recover an iPhone Restrictions Passcode from an iTunes backup in a couple of easy steps! All you need is the
