Some people like to keep their personal data very secure, others less so, this is an individual preference. However, moving personal data from one device to another can certainly multiply the risks involved in keeping data secure. An iPhone and the backups created in iTunes can hold an incredible amount of personal data. In order to keep data secure when creating an iTunes backup, you can set-up a password encrypted backup using iTunes.
However, there will be certain cases, such as an iOS upgrade failure or a new iPhone/iPad that you might want to get hold of the encrypted iTunes data. The iPhone Backup Extractor Premium edition can help resolve these issues without compromising a backup's security. As long as you know your iTunes backup password, you can access your backup data instantly. We have also added this functionality to our Lite and Basic versions, there are some limitations from the premium version, but you can extract any file from the backup. We believe that being able to see what is stored in the encrypted backup in any version is ultimately very helpful, and helps to clarify a backups usefulness.
Decrypting an encrypted iTunes backup is very complicated, and in the past only hands-on forensics knowledge could tackle such a task. Over the last year we have received many user queries regarding encryption, so many that we have developed our latest iPhone Backup Extractor application with encrypted backup support in mind. The iPhone Backup Extractor Pro now gives full access to encrypted iTunes backups, but for security reasons you must know the iTunes backup password and the application must validate it's correct.
How to open encrypted iTunes backups stored on your computer
Here are four easy steps for reading encrypted iTunes/iOS backups with the help of our iPhone Backup Extractor Pro software for Windows:
- Download and install the latest version of our iPhone Backup Extractor.
- Open the iPhone Backup Extractor. It will automatically load the backups from your default backup folder from the most recent to the oldest one. You can browse for backups from other locations using the drop-down list in the app and ‘Select another backup folder’.
- Load your encrypted iTunes backup – Status: Complete and encrypted and Enter your backup password. If it is the correct password our app will automatically load your available backup data, if the password is incorrect it simply won't open your backup.
- Extract the Available Data in the backup by clicking on the blue number corresponding to each data section, using the File and Extract menu or by accessing the files in Expert Mode.
We have created a simple and short video to show you how easy and quickly the process is and how to use the latest version of the iPhone Backup Extractor Pro. For the above ‘step 4’ we have extracted only the Contacts, but it works the same for the other data sections such as SMS, Calendars, Photos, Videos, Notes and App Data.
The new Premium licence and encrypted backup integration were instigated by our user comments and suggestions. Are you excited about the new premium version of our iPhone Backup Extractor? Do you have any feedback to help improve the application even more?
