The new iOS 9, coming this September, has new features that will make the iPhones and iPads move faster, smarter and even for a longer time because the enhancements made by Apple promise a full hour of additional time before charging. Woot to that!

For those who can't wait until the public release to try the Slide Over, Split View, or Picture in Picture features and more, Apple released the iOS 9 beta in its Developer Program. We've already shown how to update to iOS 9 beta and now it's time for the downgrade. Because as cool as the improvements sound, it's just a testing version still full of bugs.

So, if you want to go back to the more stable iOS 8.4, just follow the steps below. But keep in mind to have at hand an iCloud or iTunes backup of your data (yes, even those recent iOS 9 beta data you have added to your iDevice). If anything wrong happens during the downgrade process, the iPhone Backup Extractor will help recover your iOS data.

Roll back to iOS 8.4 in 4 easy steps

1. First, turn off Find my iPhone by going to Settings > iCloud > Find My iPhone.

2. Connect the device to the computer, launch iTunes and enter DFU mode. For this, turn off the device, hold the Power button for 3 seconds, in the same time begin holding the Home button for 10 seconds, release the Power button and continue holding the Home button until iTunes will show the Recovery mode confirmation. Click OK.

3. Then click on Restore iPhone button and select Restore and Update for the confirmation. iTunes will give you some information about the iOS 8.4 update and will wait for you to click through Next and Agree buttons.

4. The iOS 8.4 will be downloaded and installed to your device. After about 10 minutes you'll see the Hello screen and instructions about restoring personal data from the backup.

Always back up your iOS data

Keep in mind that Apple lets you restore only from your latest iOS 8 compatible backup and not from an iOS 9 beta compatible backup. For any data saved on the device after the iOS 9 beta update, you must do it manually.

But in this case, or any other worst case scenario when corrupt files mess with the correct recovery, for individual files recovery or accessing those iOS backup data directly on your MAC OS X or Windows PC, use the iPhone Backup Extractor. The Free Edition will let you explore the app functionality and let you recover a limited number of files. We recommend upgrading to the Home or Pro Edition depending on your needs or type of backup, iCloud or iTunes.

Restore iOS backup data to iPhone

Restoring your iTunes or iCloud backup data to your iPhone or iPad should be easy for most of the backed up files. Here's how you can manually get some of the most important backup data back to your iDevice:
